A High Point in Grabbing at the Impulse Shopper

My wife joined NetFlicks a long time ago. I've never ordered or looked at a NetFlicks DVD. It's a personality disorder, but I don't care to change it. But this thing nailed me. I've heard a lot about "Happy Feet" but hadn't seen and had no plans to see it. But then I ran into the above diabolical machine at our local Albertson's. Intrigued by the shiny buttons and the pretty screens, I ended up reviewing their menu of available DVDs, swiped my credit card and selected "Happy Feet." I went home and my wife and I watched it and I took the DVD back this morning.

So now I'll just wait until HP & the Order of the Phoenix shows up in this machine. Naw, I won't ever do this again. I feel so violated, but I did it to myself. So that should probably be called violabation...

Self-violation, -ouch!

You have sinned and are on the way to Hollywood Hell.

I would have fallen for those too, if I didn't shop at Ralph's. Also, I usually do my grocery shopping around 11pm because I hate people, so I just break into the store and take whatever I can grab in three minutes. It's like Supermarket Sweep, only with charges pressed, and sometimes you come home with eight jars of jam, bullion cubes, and paprika, and you know it's going to be a long, hungry week.

I applaud your brave exploration of new video rental techniques, Bert. I cannot seem to tear myself away from traditional video stores, where the supergeek cashiers offer unsolicited comments on the DVD you've just chosen. I can't help myself! My local vidstore clerk looks exactly like Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys, and his insightful reviews have included gems like: "Tom Cruise isn't as annoying as you would expect in this one."

There may have been a time where I was a clerk at such a store. Maybe. But my reviews were - er, would have been, hilarious.

Luckily they don't have those red machines in the part of L.A. where I live, which is Lower Alabama. But they do have a Wal-Mart which, although not amusing, will open Wednesday after all. I expect it will be quite crowded. Maybe it'll have a red machine. Maybe there's one in Hoboken.

Try Blockbuster online- it's way cheaper than those video stores, and you get all the movies you want!! NetFlicks is OK, from what I hear, and neither are as pretty as those shiney button machines, but $20 a month for something in the area of 25 movies is pretty darn reasonable. We have video stores, but we were spending way too much money there -and tired of the store clerks who never watch the darn movies!! Why pay someone to work somewhere where they have no idea what they're doing there! Umm no, I haven't seen that movie, nope that one either...sorry, I just work here. I think Pistols should shop at OPEN stores at 11PM, don't they have stores open after 8PM in your town? Gosh where does he live? Alabama??!!!
You didn't say whether you liked Happy Feet!??

Jana, Happy Feet was a disaster. I was a ski bum while I was at BYU. You can't tap dance on snow. Cute idea, lots of cuteness as it starts out and then they got maybe a third of the way into it and realized that there was nowhere to go, and that's where they went, nowhere.

Shopping at open stores is so pedestrian. Where's the thrill?
