Blame El Pistolero . . .

In response to one of his comments to some post of mine, I asked him (and now I'm asking you) which is better, Truth or Happiness?

Yes, yes, you can have both if you're rich, 19, handsome/beautiful and have bodyguards.

But the rest of us have problems because there is usually a dichotomy, you can't have both Truth and Happiness. And so we each make our choices. This divide may help explain where Religion came from...

What's yours? (Choice, not Religion...)

If I were answering for Aldous Huxley, I'd point to the character of Bernard, who refuses to take the soma, prefering life as himself (truth) instead of drug-induced happiness (happiness).

It doesn't end too well for him, or for anyone who wasted their time reading that pretty crappy book.

I usually choose both Truth and Happiness. You CAN do both as long as you don't give a shit about hurting anyone when telling the Truth.

When the Truth doesn't lead to Happiness, I just lie (to my wife) about playing an extra round of golf.

As for someone telling me the Truth or a lie, what do I care as long as it makes me Happy.

(Almost) everyone likes having choices though, and that's why I don't understand what makes Religion so popular. I guess the saying "everyone sins" is a nice way out.

Wow, that brings back a blast from the past, Big - T. You're probably not old enough... But at one time the question of whether your bride was a virgin was Tres Importante! I guess it still is in some cultures.

But we Americans have come to accept the notion that this is no longer an issue. Pretty brave of us, n'cest pas? Even-Handed Hope was nibbling at this issue in a recent (racy) post of hers.

I just hope her wedding gift to me doesn't require any shots or penicillin.

I like T's answer a lot - very well articulated. Whenever I'm given a choice, I often want both. It's not because I'm incapable of making decisions, I'm just greedy.

Which is better, Truth or Happiness? The truth don't make happiness, and it don't make you free either. It just makes you Even Handed (and sometimes not that either).

Kat - you can't have it all. Most times, you're lucky if you get one fraction of one thing you wanted.

If the women of the world will just start believing that, a lot more of them will start accepting my rarely wanted advances.

I prefer being lied to as long as it's a good lie. I live to be entertained. That's what makes me happy.

pistols: Says you. The rules change when you have a huge rack, my friend.

True, Happy, or Fair, Big Racks WRITE the rules...

DAMN IT! Do you hold all the cards, woman? You give massages, like hockey, can read, have a consistent slew of clever quips, and a huge rack?

Now it becomes clear: you are a mythical creature that I have invented. How are the unicorns, chimaeras, and satyrs?

And lastly, please renounce your citizenship of every country worth living in so that I can have SOMETHING to offer you. I'm not sure how to get a visa from My Imagination to Reality, but I'll contact the State Department, and should have their response by early 2011.
