Mull this over while I drive 900 miles

From an article I read after being linked to it on another blog site. I think it was a Yahoo.com story.

"One in four adults read no books at all in the past year, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll released Tuesday.

"Among those who said they had read books, the median figure — with half reading more, half fewer — was nine books for women and five for men."

I read about ten books a month. I'm one of those voracious readers. I'd read more if the internet didn't exist and GSN didn't have High Stakes Poker playing twice a week, or more. And imagine how much I'd read if I didn't play golf?

I love reading.

Either you love to read and you'd miss books if there were all taken away, or you only read when you think there's something in it for you, an immediate something. (Well, yeah, porn does give you an immediate something...)

If I couldn't read, I'd die.

When i was a kid you could expect a boot in your knackers if you even tried to prise a book out of my hands. All I did was read and write. Then came high school and we had to deconstruct books constantly which had the result of me never wanting to read another book as long as I lived.

It's only recently I've been easing back into it - I maybe read six or seven books a year and that's it. My mum is horrified as she's a school teacher and like I said, I used to read all day long and some of the night too. Honestly, school ruins everything that was ever any fun.

I need some new reading material actually.

I read as much as I can. Unfortunately, I simply can't afford to buy books any more. I've been reading and re-reading and re-re-reading everything in my collection...

I probably go through one or two books a week -- more if I can.

I used to go through lots of books, but not as many as you cats. In my ideal world, I'd read one a week, but what with all my rehab and new substance addictions, there's just never the time.

Uh, do magazines count as books?

What about software manuals?

I blame my wife for my inconsistent reading habits because every time it's late and I'm reading, my wife walks by (on her way to bed) and says, "well, if you'd rather read...". -Down goes the book (and me).

I adore reading and so did my boys up until No Child Left Behind. Well, my kids have left reading behind. They used to be voracious readers, now I can hook one of them if I read something and tell him tasty tidbits, the other had to do so many book reports because of AP classes that he just won't bother anymore. WTG US Education system!

Other than that, who has time?
