Hope for the Future!
The photo above was taken yesterday. I was southbound on Vermont, passing by USC. The young lady in the convertible pulled up next to me, she in the S/B left turn lane, and I in the #1 S/B lane. I was heading into South Central and she was heading for the future, turning into student housing, or maybe it was the Sex Ed center?
Anyway, with the USC sign chiseled into the granite, I thought the lietmotif was clear, our youth need education but they've got to have a convertible to get it. Powerful stuff... I almost wept.

Ah yes, when they do the figures on what it now costs to give our teens and college education, I often wonder how much of that is for the lap top, the convertible, the nights out at Starbucks at 4.25 a cup, and the phone bill. How in the world did we ever get any kind of education at all back in my day, when we only had study as our extracurricular entertainment.......
Nea, I concur in your arch sarcasm.
One of my sons attends a Cal State facility and rides a bike to the campus. (Of course, that's just his personal choice, as we did buy him a convertible...)
One of the first things kids learn at California schools (particularly SoCal schools) is shame. Like, how embarrassing it would be to drive to class in a '94 Ford Escort. Totally weak to the max.
maybe her parents are rich, or maybe she got an academic scholarship to USC & got that convertible by working late at night at hollywood & vine, just a guess!!!
Ingrid, you cynic you...
Bert, The car wouldn't be the only thing with its top down if only YOU had beads to give her. Looks like someone was ahead of you.
